Shared vision for national service network drives combination
CPR Cell Phone Repair, North America’s largest device repair retail chain, continues its recent momentum by announcing it has reached an agreement with Phone Surgeons whereby the Phone Surgeons stores throughout the U.S. will join the CPR franchise system. The deal demonstrates CPR’s accelerating growth and commitment to industry leadership, as the addition of the Phone Surgeons stores will increase CPR’s store count to approximately 400 retail locations.
Josh Sevick, CPR’s President, stated, “Phone Surgeons has an outstanding reputation for strong, strategic partnerships and has expanded it best-in-class retail operations to key markets across seven states. We are pleased to have Chris Jourdan and his team join the CPR team as we make more progress toward our goal of building national service networks in the U.S. and Canada.”
Phone Surgeons founder, Chris Jourdan, shares Sevick’s vision. “We’ve been working towards a vision of building the first national repair network in North America to serve the OEMs, warranty companies, and wireless carriers. I’m very proud of our team at Phone Surgeons and everything they’ve accomplished and I’m grateful for the opportunity to partner with CPR to help create the leading national repair network. We considered forming an alliance of independent operators and we looked at every leader in the space, including talks with several. After meeting with Josh and his team at CPR, it become an easy decision to partner with the biggest and the best. It’s truly impressive what they’ve built, and we’re excited to be a part of the future.”
Jourdan, along with other members of the Phone Surgeons corporate staff, will join the CPR management team in pursuing various business development opportunities and enhancements to the franchisee support system. Phone Surgeons stores that are onboarded into the CPR system will benefit from being a part of a larger store network, dramatically increased web traffic and repair volume, and a strong supply chain partnership.
The deal will immediately add 15 retail locations to the CPR store network with several other Phone Surgeons development deals in the works, including an upcoming 13-store launch in partnership with a major retailer. This CPR/Phone Surgeons announcement comes on the heels of the CPR/In & Out Repair merger last month, which added 70 stores to the CPR network. With three industry leaders joining forces in a matter of weeks, it is evident that the fragmented repair industry is maturing and will continue to consolidate.
On the topic of CPR’s overtures to independent store owners, Josh Sevick said, “We continue to be impressed by the quality of the independent store and regional chain operators that we meet from all over the country. Some of them have chosen to join CPR, which we see as strong validation of what we are doing. We will continue to actively recruit talented repair industry operators to partner with us in new markets.”
The repair industry has also begun to attract the attention of many of the major players in wireless. Ben Davies, who works in business development at CPR, has seen a big shift in the way third-party repair companies are viewed. Davies commented, “In the past year, we have seen the major wireless carriers explore various options for bringing same-day repair offerings to the market. We have seen some of the device OEMs express more willingness to leverage third-party repair shops to fulfill their customer care strategies.“
In addition to onboarding Phone Surgeons stores into the CPR system, the addition of Phone Surgeons will strengthen strategic alliances and bring several key national accounts to the CPR network of stores.
