Introducing a new weekly series, “Meet the Phone Surgeon” – We’re fortunate (as are all of you who need your iPhone or iPad repaired) to have incredibly talented technicians across the country and we decided it’s past time we give them some love while giving everyone a glimpse into the life of a few of our top techs! Every Sunday we will feature a different technician, today we’ll start in Kansas City and introduce Senior Phone Surgeon, Edwin Amilasan.
Edwin began his career with Phone Surgeons a little over a year ago, but he’s been fixing electronics and building robots for years! Born in the Philippines, Edwin moved to the US when he was 12 years old and currently attends UMKC as an Electrical and Computer Engineering major. In addition to saving digital lifelines for hundreds of Kansas City residents, he also serves as a System Engineer intern at Cerner Corporation. When he’s not fixing phones & tablets, working at his internship, attending class or tutoring, Edwin leads a team of five fellow students in IEEE Robotics Competitions or he’s building classic Arcade boxes powered by Raspberry Pi like this one below.
Edwin leads a very busy and active life as you can see, his full schedule only permits him to work part-time at the Phone Surgeons Urgent Care in Kansas City, located in Nebraska Furniture Mart. Despite only working part-time hours, there is a good chance, if you had your iPad repaired at the KC NFM in the last year, it was Edwin who brought your device back to life. Edwin is certified to work on iPhones, Samsung Galaxy devices and iPads and he successfully completed 603 repairs in 2016 – an average of over 50 repairs per month!
5 Things to know about Edwin Amilasan
Favorite thing to do in Kansas City: Watch the Sporting KC – Huge soccer fan! (close 2nd = enjoy some of KC’s famous BBQ with friends)
Favorite Musician: Frank Ocean
Worst break he’s fixed: S7 Edge, the hardest part about this repair is that the back glass is very hard to take off since there is a risk in damaging it, not only it has a chance of getting cracked, but the back glass paint is also very easy to scratch.
Enjoys most about being a Phone Surgeon: “I love electronics! Taking them apart, figuring out what’s wrong, and fixing the problem is the best way of learning about the device. I am an Electrical Engineer major and i am very interested about these things. Not do I only enjoy the repairs, but I also like helping customers.”
